Our Fishing Region

Tauranga is situated in the Eastern Fish and Game region. In general terms, this region covers the Bay of Plenty, Rotorua lakes, East Coast, Waikaremoana, and the Waikato river and lakes from Huka Falls to Maraetai.

It includes some of the best known waters in New Zealand, and caters for all methods and stylesof trout fishing – lakes, river and stream; fly fishing, spinning, trolling and harling. Both rainbow and brown trout can be caught throughout the region, with most waters holding good numbers of fish.

A licence is required to fish for trout.

Because of the impracticalities of communicating with individual licence holders, membership of a club provides the best opportunity for individuals to obtain information on what is happening in the region. Through membership of a club, you can have your say about what happens in your fishing district.
